‘Malbec’ and ‘glouglou’ (easy-drinking wine) don’t usually go together—unless you’re talking about Côt from Touraine.
For those who want fruit and power without the sky-high alcohol levels that often come with it, there’s Écotone. It’s fruit, fruit, and more fruit. On the nose, you immediately get black cherries, raspberries, and plums, with a little earthy edge that’s almost reminiscent of Nebbiolo. It grounds the wine and gives it a rustic, down-to-earth character.
On the palate, it’s almost like drinking a Beaujolais. It’s juicy, but there’s also something sturdier—like someone spiked the fruit punch with a splash of blackcurrant liqueur. Coincidence? No! The blend features a part of Gamay 🕺. What a great idea 🤤
This is the kind of wine that pairs perfectly with turkey or gooey, strong cheeses like Camembert. There’s a pretty decent one at Albert Heijn, or better yet, go to Fromagerie KEF!
