Folie Rouge 2011

This beautiful 2011 will break that “Natural wine can’t age” myth. The nose makes you feel like that you’ve paid off your mortgage. 11 years old, the wine features a beautiful tuile colour. The palate is a festival. Old wood, a bit of minerality, dried fruit, lots of dried herb, Provençal herbs, black olives and a touch of sun dried tomato. 

Lovely pick up on the leathery, slightly gamy finish with surprising length and spiciness. As the integrated tannins fade away, the finish is extended by the bright acidity of the Syrah.

Tech facts:
55 years old Syrah, 65 years old Mourvèdre and 85 years old Carignan. Grapes were fermented in different vats (parcellaire). Destemming and maceration in open demi-muid. Daily punching of the cap. 30 days long maceration. 38 months of elevage in old barriques, then 12 months in stainless steel tank. Bottled after 50 months. 20Hl/Ha. 3000 bottles were produced.

Soils:
Crest de Rivesaltes: thick layer of 6 to 10 meters composed of red clay, gravel and pebbles.
