I grew up just a stone's throw from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Côtes-du-Rhône wines are probably the ones I saw most on my grandfather José's dinner table.
The value for money is simply unbeatable, and the pleasure is immediate. Maestral boasts a truly mouth-watering nose, with notes of kirsch cherry, chocolate, wild garrigue herbs, fennel, and licorice.
Crucial info to know, this wine is crafted in Laudun, the northernmost village appellation of the Southern Rhône. It stands out for its cooler terroir, denser forests, and sandy soils. In the glass, this translates into a fresher, more delicate, and more elegant version of Côtes du Rhône.
This wine truly reminds me of the sheer deliciousness of a Southern French dessert that is as simple as it is satisfying: Les fruits rouges au vin (red berries in wine). All it takes is perfectly ripe fruit, a pinch of sugar, and the whole thing drenched in wine 🤩
